Cutting Edge

Invent the Hoverboard!

If Back to the Future II is anything to go by, hover boards are no more than six years away, tops. By 2015 we should all be skating around on hover boards, talking to the TV and wearing futuristic (but curiously retro-looking) clothes. But with no sign of the toy of everyone’s dreams coming from Mattel, or in fact any other toy manufacturer, it provides a great opportunity for any creative and enterprising individuals who are keen to make a billion.

I know it seems like a potentially impossible task, but on the bright side, you’ve got a whole six years left to achieve it, and with the huge advances made in battery power over the last 10-15 years, technology is beginning to catch up.

To give you an idea into how much a real life hoverboard could be worth, a (obviously) non-functioning styrofoam prop from the movie recently sold for around $50,000*, so imagine how much a real one could be worth.

To stand a chance at achieving this in the next six years, you’ll probably need a phd in electrophysics or quantum dynamics and at least $100m backing. Good luck!
